ACH Return Code R67

ACH Return Code R67 occurs when a payment is returned due to being a duplicate of a previous transaction, often caused by system or human error.

ACH Return Code R67, referred to as "Duplicate Return," occurs when a transaction is returned because it duplicates a previously processed payment. This often happens when an ACH payment is inadvertently submitted more than once, whether due to system errors or manual mistakes.

Understanding and managing ACH Return Code R67 is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and efficiency of ACH transactions.

What Is an ACH Return Code

In ACH payments, a return code is a standardized explanation for why a transaction was not processed through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network.

These codes are crucial for both the Originating Depository Financial Institution (ODFI), which initiates the payment, and the Receiving Depository Financial Institution (RDFI), which processes it. They help identify and resolve the underlying issues causing the failure.

Governed by NACHA, the organization overseeing the ACH network, return codes ensure consistency and clarity across transactions. Common causes for return codes include insufficient funds, closed accounts, incorrect account information, or unauthorized transactions.

What Is ACH Return Code R67

ACH Return Code R67, known as "Duplicate Return," is issued when a transaction is returned because it was submitted more than once. This code indicates that the payment or transaction was processed multiple times, often due to an error in the payment initiation process.

A duplicate return may occur if the same ACH payment is inadvertently resubmitted or if a previous transaction has already been processed successfully.

How to Fix ACH Return Code R67

To fix ACH Return Code R67, first identify the cause of the duplicate transaction. Review the payment history and check if the same transaction was mistakenly initiated or processed more than once. Once identified, ensure that the duplicate payment is removed from the system, and only the valid transaction is processed.

If the duplication resulted from a technical error, work with your payment processing system or financial institution to resolve the issue and prevent future occurrences.
